Hello, Lebanon. It’s me, your friendly Green Patriot. If you’ve been following the news, then you know this almost laughable fact…our power shortages are going to be increased from 18 to 20 hours a day. Yes, that’s right…the rest of the time, we’ll have to rely on alternative sources of power, usually our generators.

My fellow Lebanese, this is pathetic. Lebanon’s costs of energy are the highest in the Middle East, and they are going to go up again. For how long are we going to be deprived of consistent power? How long are we going to keep shouldering the increasing cost of generators?

Now is the time for me to make my pitch for using solar power not only as an eco-friendly solution, but also as one that will pay for itself and in the long run, less expensive than generator power. Unlike the electricity we get, it’s also consistent (in a country that get sun 300 out of 365 days a year, it should be).

Sigh. 20 hours a day? How ridiculous.
